I had seen Faern out taking photos at a number of events in San Francisco over the course of a year or so, and always appreciated her work. She always seems to capture angels that no one else is looking for; when there’s a pile of photographers all lined up in one spot at the center of the stage, Faern will be off to the side, or underneath, or above, and the resulting photographs are often more candid because the subjects are unaware of her position.
After awhile of enjoying her work, I approached Faern to do a private shoot. She was extremely flexible and creative in the discussion of what/where/when, and we ended up wandering the city together in search of photographic locations. While shooting, she’s directive but not overbearing. She takes into consideration all kinds of small details – the light, the shadows, the alignment of objects in the background, the textures, the palate of colors in the scene, but doesn’t take forever in figuring out the shot. I was extremely pleased with how my photos turned out, and she processed them quickly and without any hassle.
I would recommend Faern for any kind of project, from performance art to portraiture to weddings to fashion to documentary. Her photos are elegant yet striking, and she’s absolutely wonderful to work with.
